The original "This is NOT Greatest Site" (hereafter "NGS"), an extensive collection of lyric and article translations and guides created and maintained by Cayce, a prominent Buck-Tick community member and professional translator, was lost on May 30th, 2023, reportedly with no warning from the site's hosting company. Cayce had said in her companion blog, The Blog-Tick Phenomenon, that she had not given up hope of reviving the site.
However, in early spring of 2024, we deeply regret to report that the community lost Cayce as well.
On October 6th, 2024, a DDoS attack temporarily brought down the Internet Archive, on which the last known copies of NGS still remained. At that time, a community effort was made to download copies of the site from the archive in between attacks in an attempt to preserve the site should the damage to the archive be irreparable.
As of this writing, The Blog-Tick Phenomenon is still available, and the Internet Archive has been restored. However, the threat of permanent loss to Cayce's work, as well as the entire archive, has been made clear.
This is NOT Greatest (mirror) Site is currently under construction and will be for quite some time, as we are moving content over by hand and removing much of the underlying bloat code of the Google and Web Archive site hosts in order to minimize the site size. As much as possible, the site will be built to match the last remaining copies on the Internet Archive, with very specific exceptions:
- ・A link to kagidokei's upload is at the top of the navigation sidebar.
- ・Images (outside of a few exceptions) and the collapseable navigation list, if added, will be done so last.
- ・Commentary from the "mirror host" is applied only when deemed absolutely necessary, such as in the cases of concert ticket purchases and train timetable references, as these processes have changed so greatly since the orignal post, that old information would be misleading.
- ・As needed, this message, too, will be updated.
Additionally, as this is a preservation of a desktop-only era site, this site is not currnetly optimized for mobile.
The NGS's page on "Sharing NGS Content" states the following: "[W]e ask that you please not re-post NGS content elsewhere, ever. Instead of copying and pasting large volumes of content, please post a link instead."
In both preserving the site on the Internet Archive and in creating a mirror site here, we are going against the site's explicit wishes. However, we began this preservation effort in a good faith belief that the circumstances of Cayce's departure and the attack on the Internet Archive could not have been foreseen.
The purpose of these preservation efforts is two-fold:
- Preserve Cayce's incredible body of work, specifically the digital preservation of the Google Sites version of NGS's content and appearance
- Credit Cayce for said body of work and preserve her voice and digital aesthetic style
To that end, should you wish to share any material from this site, please include credit to "Cayce of This is NOT Greatest Site" to any reposting, regardless of currently publicity or audience size.
We also encourage you to look through the pages beyond those of translated lyrics (as they become available) to get a glimpse of the kind of person Cayce was: exceptionally skilled and knowledgable in both music and translation and a leader in the fan community, giving her time and effort to reach new fans and give all fans a chance at a Buck-Tick concert experience.
