Auctions

Can I help you get auction items?

Yes, I am willing to act as a proxy bidder for items on Yahoo Japan Auctions, with the following conditions. Please read this page before requesting an auction.

First and foremost, I CANNOT GUARANTEE that you will win an auction. Cayce's assistant, Auction Master Malaparte (a new member of the NGS team), is a collector with more than a decade of experience and more than 1500 positive feedback points. I can assure you you'll be in good hands with him, but if you send in a maximum bid and someone else outbids you, there is nothing he or I can do about that.

If you would like me to bid on something for you, send me a specific link to the Auction in Question, along with your maximum bid. Be advised that I can't do anything for you till you send me your maximum bid, unless the item has a buy-it-now option.

Please note that if multiple people are bidding for an item, its value can skyrocket close to the end of the auction, so bear that in mind when considering your maximum bid. If you wish to up your bid, you may do so at any time, but I can't guarantee that I'll see the email in time if the auction is close to finishing, so if you really want something, you'd be better off sending me a higher max bid figure up front.

If you think you might want an item but you can't quite tell what it is due to not being able to read Japanese, send me an email and I'll be happy to translate for you.

Due to personal circumstances and time zone issues, if you request me to bid on an auction within less than two days of ending, there is a possibility I won't get to your email in time.

For auction items that finish at more than 5000 yen, the commission fee is 15%

For auction items that finish between 2500 and 5000 yen, the commission fee is 20%

For auction items that finish at less than 2500 yen, the commission fee is 30%

For items over 5000 yen, you must be prepared to send payment the day the auction finishes.

Since most auction sellers don't ship outside of Japan, domestic shipping charges will be added to the international shipping charge.

I reserve the right to refuse to bid on sketchy items, including but not limited to: underwear and other personal effects "autographed" by Buck-Tick members, clothing supposedly worn by Buck-Tick members, cigarette butts supposedly smoked by Buck-Tick members, and paparazzi photos of Buck-Tick members (or members of any other band, for that matter.)

I reserve the right not to bid on excessively expensive items (15,000 yen or more), unless there is a buy-it-now option and you're willing to send me the money up front.

Commission fees are calculated as a percentage of the actual cost of the item (I don't include shipping charges when calculating commission.) The commission is higher for cheaper items because dealing with auctions is a laborious process and the time and energy involved don't change with the price of an item. If you want me to spend time and energy trying to secure you a 300-yen CD, you need to sweeten the deal a bit! I may be willing to negotiate fees under some circumstances (e.g., if you are a repeat customer, if you request multiple items, if you also buy an item direct from Cayce, if your auction finished right around the cusp of a cutoff point.)

Please note that PayPal charges a currency conversion fee, which increases with the amount of money to be converted, but will be no more than a few hundred yen for amounts of less than 10,000 yen.

Auction items may take some time to ship, given that I have to wait for domestic delivery, open the package to check the contents, then repackage it and send it off to your neck of the woods.
